Learn the process of screen printing posters from Burning Bones Press co-founder Carlos Hernandez. This small workshop will focus on the basics of screenprinting and creating poster-work using the vellum method. Participants will develop a set of 16×20 posters.

No previous experience or printmaking knowledge required for this workshop. ALL MATERIALS PROVIDED. Bring only your basics – markers, pencils, India inks, brushes, rulers, etc.

Course Outline:
Friday, 6:30 pm – 8 pm: Intro, work examples, basic screenprinting demonstration
Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm: Creating vellum and burning screens
Sunday, 10 am – 4pm: Printing

About Carlos Hernandez:

The work of Houston-based serigraphy artist Carlos Hernandez has been featured in the 2011 Communication Arts Typography annual, the 2011 & 2012 Communication Arts Illustration annual and was also recently published in the 2012 book Mexican Graphics by Korero Books-UK. He has designed and printed gig posters for such artists as The Kills, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Santana, and more. He was selected as the official poster artist to design the commemorative poster for the 2013 Austin City Limits Music Festival. Carlos is a founding partner of Burning Bones Press and has served as an instructor of Screen Printing at Rice University, Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts.

Carlos is a member of the legendary Outlaw Printmakers. He is a graduate of the Texas Tech Graphic Design Program.
